BARN RENOVATION… by Piet Hein Eek

Rénovation d’une ferme historique (1904) dans la ville de Woudsend par Piet Hein Eek. Woudsend est un village du Sud Ouest du Fryslân, dans la province de Friesland, aux Pays-Bas d’une population d’environ 1400 habitants. On y trouve deux moulins à vent dans le village,‘t Lam and De Jager.

Le client a voulu en faire un lieu de rencontre dynamique où l’artisanat et la gastronomie de la région jouent un rôle central. Le lait et la viande viennent de la vache frisonne (la région de Woudsend), la farine du moulin du village, le bois du moulin adjacent et on peut attraper sa propre anguille et la fumer dans le fumoir sur la route.

L’équipe souhaitait de l’authenticité et a voulu mettre en valeur les qualités originales de la ferme autant que possible. Le point de départ pour la conception fut la charpente, majestueuse .

Ils ont choisi des couleurs saisissantes pour la maison d’origine qui correspondaient aux matériaux et aux couleurs des écuries d’une manière sobre et authentique afin de s’adapter à la nature du bâtiment. Comme à l’origine, la maison et la grange sont maintenant des mondes séparés qui se complètent l’un l’autre.

Renovation of a historic farmhouse (1904) in the Friesian town of Woudsend by Piet Hein Eek. Woudesend is a village in Súdwest-Fryslân in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It has a population of around 1400. There are two windmills in the village, ‘t Lam and De Jager.

The client wanted to turn it into a vibrant meeting place, in which the handicrafts and food from the surrounding area play a central role. The milk and meat come from the Friesian cow, the flour from the mill in the village, the wood from the adjacent mill and you can catch your own eel and smoke it in the smokehouse down the road.

The team wishes for authenticity wanted to emphasise the original qualities of the farm as much as possible. Showing off the majestic roof construction in its full glory formed the starting point for the design.

As they matched the materials and colours of the stables in a sober and authentic way to fit with the nature of the building, so they chose striking colours for the original house. Just as they used to be, house and barn are now separated worlds that compliment each other.
